The Wedding...Apr06

April 2006 saw us flying out to NZd for Carolyn & Glenn's wedding.  We picked up an el cheapo hire car from the airport and headed straight up to Whangarei which is about a 2hr drive North.  As there were quite a few people flying in from Oz we made sure that we arrived at Caro's first.  Why you might ask?  Well you see when there are a dozen people all staying at Carolyn's you want to make sure you get in early to get the spare bedroom.  Like they say, first in best dressed.

Arrangements were already in place for a "Hen's Party" shortly after arrival and from the photo you can tell that the girls had a good night out.  I was silly enough to volunteer to go into town late that night to bring some of them home.  What a mistake.  I got the call about 1am to come and get them.  Hmmmmm ..... 3 hours later they were actually ready and I think only then because the last bar in town was closing.  I spent 3 long hours listening to jibberish from a dozen drunk girls. We almost made it all the way home without having to make a "pit stop" on the side of the road but that's another story.

Hen's night down and what should pop up on the calendar....Jan's birthday, and what an ideal time with all that duty free on hand.  In true Janette fashion though we had not one, not two but three birthday parties for her.  The last one being when we returned to Oz to celebrate with all her friends.  I must remember this trick for when my turn comes around.

What was going to be a small gathering for a wedding naturally grew into a grand affair and along with that came a few logistical matters that needed to be resolved.  First and foremost how were we going to keep the beer cold!!!  Now normally that wouldn't be a problem but with the wedding being planned for Easter and a coinciding with a big fishing tournament all cold rooms were booked out....not just in Whangarei but the whole North Island.  Not one for liking warm beers, and I guess all the food had to be kept somewhere as well Glenn called in a few favours and the hunt began for several fridges and "chilly bins".

The next few days were spent setting up for the wedding and erecting a marque big enough that it could have housed a 3 ring circus.  Now normally erecting a marque is something that you only want to do once but we got plenty of practice...bloody wind.  Thankfully everything came together in time.

The wedding day saw the clouds start to close in and in typical Whangarei fashion a serious threat of rain looked promising.  As it turned out the sun shone down on the wedding couple all day.   Great food, thanks to the many chefs, great music from the band, oh and lots of drinks made for a very merry afternoon wedding set in the gardens of Glenn & Caro's abode.

The Party... Jul 06

July '06 saw us heading back to NZ'd for Sandra's 40th birthday.  This time we went with Jan's girlfriend Jacqui and her bubs Abbie.  As you can tell from Abbie's picture she was in good hands with us during the flight.

I'm not sure what it is with the KIWIs but for some reason they all seem to be party animals.  Either that or they are hell bent on proving to the Ozzies that they can party better than us.  Well this party was certainly no exception.
