Travel Insurance, and why you need it!!!

Most people regard travel insurance as an added expense or a luxury but in fact it is the most important purchase of your whole family holiday, especially when travelling with children.  No one expects an accident to happen but what if your family is involved in an accident.  Something as simple as stepping off the curb and twisting an ankle can have a devastating effect on your holiday.

 In cases where you are not covered by travel insurance, such accidents can be  compounded by a long-term financial burden. Hospitalisation, medical evacuations, or even the return of the deceased's remains to Australia, can be very expensive. Daily hospitalisation costs in Southeast Asia regularly exceed $800. The cost of medical evacuations from the United States can cost from $75,000 and sometimes up to $300,000.

 Obtaining health care in some parts of the world can be very complicated. Some hospitals won't provide any treatment, or won't allow a patient to be discharged until the hospital has received payment. This means you'll have to pay in advance or show proof of payment via your travel insurance.

 Trip cancellation insurance is also a very important coverage to have from your travel insurance company. It may come as a surprise to find out that if for whatever reason you need to cancel your trip, most tickets are non refundable and you will lose the cost of your trip.
