What a great site! very informative! especially for a first time traveller like myself ...
We are going to thailand in Sept this year with our 18,16 and 7yr old boys....flying cheaply with Royal Brunei...
Thought 2 nights in Bangkok and then up to Chaing Mai...any suggestions as to where to go up north? we are on a budget and would rather keep away from the real tourist spots...you mentioned that you hired motor bikes.....silly question I suppose but are these okay? and is it easy to travel around on them seeing the sites? any suggestions of places to stay would also be appreciated... Also on the train up to chaing mai is there room in a sleeper for the 3 of us? (hubby, myself and 7 yr old) I cannot seem to find info on how many can fit into a cabin in 1st class....
Any info will be most appreciated! and again congrats on such a fantastic site!

Hi there Bob & Janette,
thanks for the quick response on trip advisor.
We are soooo looking forward to Thailand. We (myself, hubby and 15 yo daughter) are also flying jetstar so are looking forward to the cattle class economy. Well we did it twice to the usa in economy and made it twice without too much winging. I would rather spend our money on the ground than in the air.
We are going to stay in patong for 5 nights then i have organised a cab to take us to Krabi, staying on the beach.
Then we are going to Phi Phi for hopefully a relaxing time. We will definatley leave our snorkelling adventures for there.
After that we are going back to Patong for a 6 night stay so will hopefully be doing lots of shopping.
Have you done much shopping there?
Thanks again for your response.
Vicki

Bob's reply: I'm sure you will enjoy Thailand and especially the Krabi/Phi Phi areas for snorkelling. Great nightlife in Phuket as is the shopping.
Songkran is such a lot of fun so embrace the festival and remember a plastic bag for the camera
Cheers

Hi! What a great website, i am tempted to just copy your trip. Me and my boyfriend are planning a trip to Thailand for 3 weeks in November/December this year. We want to spend a few days in Bangkok and then travel down to the islands. Can i just ask one quick questions? Are the ferrys etc expensive?
I know everbody has a different budget, but for 3 weeks travelling around in (fairly) budget accommodation, how much would you recommend we take?
Thank you for any help you can give!
Beth

Hi
Really interesting and informative website.
I am travelling up through Malaysia and Thailand in July/August this year and wondered if you knew how easy it would be to get a bus from Penang to Krabi?
Happy travels!
Regards, Amanda
Bob's reply: Hi Amanda,
I used to live in Penang and getting to Krabi is quite an easy process.
Go to the Butterworth ferry terminal and catch either a minivan or taxi to Hadyai. It should cost about RM30 or so and take about 3 hrs. From Hadyai you can either get a bus or another minivan to Krabi. I would suggest a morning 8 - 9am joint taxi (shared with others) from Butterworth and then the Hadyai minivan leaving about 1am. You would be in Krabi about 4pm.
Another option would be to check the travel agents in Penang for tourist serices to Krabi. It will be more expensive through them though.
Hope this helps.
Cheers
